Greece has extended to 18 months the maximum period of detention, and has launched with the financial support of the European Union in an extensive program to build new detention centers whose capacity should reach 30,000 people.
The inhumane conditions of detention and inhuman and degrading treatment reported by the associations and recognized by international bodies have not stopped.
Mohammed Hassan was Afghan. He was locked up in the detention center of Corinth September 2, 2012. He was suffering from a serious lung disease. He was denied access to the treatments he needed during his 11 months of detention. He died on July 27.
