When the temperature dropped to -25 ° in Serbia, the state of emergency was declared and some exiles from the jungle of Subotica were housed in a former hotel in Palic, about ten miles away.

But this humanitarian measure proved to be a trap: the weather becomes inclement least, this refuge was closed on February 23, the morning of the closing, the police rounded up all the exiles still present and expelled to Macedonia by country which they were known to have traveled to come to Serbia.

The same morning the police raided the jungle of Subotica, stopping the exiles who have not had time to escape. The huts were then burned with the personal effects they contained.
