The reception center for asylum seekers in Banja Koviljaca dates from the 60s. With the increasing number of asylum seekers in Serbia, it was quickly saturated. Asylum seekers have had to find accommodation in a more or less precarious way in the town. During winter of 2011 - 2012, several demonstrations were held by inhabitants that the exiles be expelled from the city. A second center was opened in Bogovada, and remained in Banja Koviljaca only asylum seekers housed in the center.
The same situation occurs in Bogovada: the center, saturated, is too small. Asylum seekers sleep in abandoned buildings or in "jungles" outside the city. The administration began renting houses in neighboring villages to accommodate them. This is where demonstrations and stone throwing against a building which houses asylum seekers began.
