Wednesday, March 28, 40 days before the elections, the police made numerous arrests of undocumented immigrants in central Athens. The relocation of them in closed centers is announced, but these centers do not yet exist. This is, to the detriment of those arrested and packed in police cells, an operation of election communication. It was announced several days in advance, which has allowed many undocumented immigrants out of Athens or stay hidden for a few days. According to sources, there are indeed between 200,000 and 600,000 undocumented immigrants in the country, some of which have an indispensable role in the Greek economy. It is therefore impossible and unthinkable to arrest them all. In fact, according to police, 1023 people of which 740 were foreigners, were controlled, and 415 in police custody to view, including 380 foreigners.
