The Greek government has closed access to free health care for undocumented migrants in public hospitals, except emergency. A recent circular extends this principle of exclusion to infectious diseases. But a part which seems important of the medical profession refuses to apply these guidelines and continue to provide the same care regardless of the immigration status of people.
At the same time, the Government justifies the detention of migrants in the new camps which are being opened by the health risks they would pose to the public, including infectious diseases they are supposed to carry.
Parliamentarians of the Golden Dawn, extreme-right party, ask for excluding children whose parents are undocumented from the nurseries.
